Looking Forward and Backward— (2015 & 1995)

Astrology, at its essence, is an examination of cycles.  As such, astrologers know that in order to plan forward it is often necessary to look backward.

1995

We regularly throw dates at our clients asking them, what happened this year or this month or at this time.  What we are really asking is: what happened the last time you were in this cycle?  We do this, because we know that life is not a series of disjointed unrelated events.  There is always a thread, however tenuous, that runs through the circumstances of one’s life and it’s the astrologer’s job to help clients access and understand exactly what their binding themes are.

When I ask a client what happened during a specific period of their past, I’m trying to gain an understanding of events that are related to what may be evolving, activating or ending now.  So it is in that spirit that I ask you:  do you remember what was going on for you in 1995?

I ask this because, from an astrologer’s point of view, 2015 and 1995 are thematically connected and so the events from that time in your life and the events of 2015 may also be related.  Recall if you can what 1995 was about for you and while you do that, I’ll explain what’s going on astrologically.

Here’s what’s going on in the sky.  In 1995, Pluto was moving out of the sign of Scorpio and into the sign of Sagittarius.  Now (since late 2014) and into September 2015, Saturn will be moving over the same spot in the sky, harkening back to 1995 in theme.

So what are the themes?  Well, in a generic sense some of the Scorpio/Sagittarius themes are:  out of the darkness and into the light; power (or misuse of power) and justice; birth and the expansion of possibility.

On a societal level, we can see this theme repeating very clearly.

In 1995, prominent murder cases were being tried in both Canada and the United States.  In Canada, it was the Paul Bernardo case which brought to light all of the details of the heinous rape and murders carried out in prior years by Bernardo who, aided by his innocent pretty boy persona, operated for many years as the notorious Scarborough rapist.  In the United States, prominent African American hero OJ Simpson was being tried for double murder in a televised court case.

Now in late 2014-September 2015, Saturn (the planet of careers, fathers and reputation) is moving over the same place Pluto did in 1995.  Since this is Saturn (the planet related to careers and societal rules) and not Pluto (planet of revenge and murder) prominent reputations are being re-examined and careers are in jeopardy for the sexual behaviour of—get this—a Canadian pretty boy (Jian Ghomeshi) and an African American hero and father figure (Bill Cosby).

It’s a striking similarity.

In your own life you may also see a striking similarity.  Consider what 1995 was about for you.  Ask yourself if in some way you are revisiting those themes now?  What did you learn from 1995 that you can use now in your current circumstances?  Did you birth something in 1995 that is now moving productively into the world, be that a human or a project of another nature?

Look back and see what is worth carrying forward from 1995. Appreciate the strides you have made on your journey and how both you and your plans have evolved from that time.  Be ready to employ that which you were passionate about in 1995.  Be wary of repeating the mistakes of that time.  Confront that which you have kept in the dark, but most of all, plan for a powerful year in the light!

Are You Getting Through?

Eclipses on Oct 18th and Nov 3rd, taking their toll on some.

Eclipse cycles are always very interesting to astrologers. They symbolize times of heightened experience, pleasant or unpleasant. Usually I will write about the eclipses before they occur, to let you know that they are on their way so you can pay attention to what’s going on and how you’re feeling. However, this time I’m writing in the middle of the eclipse period (we had one in Aries Oct 18th and we have another one this Sunday Nov 3rd in Scorpio), because I was down for the count with these two, as were, I’m sure, quite a number of people.

So, if you’ve been having a tough two weeks, a) you’re not alone and b) chances are you’ve got some late Cardinal (Libra, Aries, Cancer, Capricorn) elements to your chart or you have some mid Fixed features in your chart (Scorpio, Taurus, Leo, Aquarius.) That covers a lot of people!

From what I’ve seen, it’s the fixed signs that have been feeling these influences the most, i.e. taking them the hardest. Scorpios could go either way with it, very happy or very turbulent, and mostly that depends on whether or not they’ve done some deep letting go in the past. If they have, this might represent new beginnings for them, but Scorpios who have some letting go to do, might be finding this time trying.

Likewise, many Leos, Aquarians and Taureans have been knocked off their feet these last few weeks as they process and let go of ideas, situations, old patterns and people. For anyone who has already done this work of letting go, then this time represents an adjustment to the new situation. For those who’ve been resisting, something has got to give!

The reason that fixed signs have been largely struggling with this energy is that by nature the fixed signs are good at hanging on. It’s their thing. They persist; they persevere. They keep on keeping on. And now, life is asking them to stop being so consistent and let something change. Not easy for this group.

Personally, I had to let go of some old childish concepts about love and how love works. It was hard and painful and at the same time very, very rewarding. I was helped along by Peter Gabriel’s song “Love to Be Loved.” This song is POWERFUL and very instrumental for releasing. If you’re struggling at all with letting go of anything, I would highly recommend it. Have a tissue handy.

To Be Loved Love

Less than 48 hours after having a dramatic release of my own, I stumbled across this plaque which I will now be displaying on my desk so I can read it each day. It was my sign that I had done the work I needed to do, because I was struggling with the concept of receiving love and this expression takes the very words of the Gabriel song and rearranges them in a solution to my question which was: how can I feel love with my concepts of love shattered? The phrase is Latin and it means: To Be Loved–Love.

I wish you success in your own letting go. I send my love out to you as you do.

For Clients:

If you’re a client, you’ll know that it’s not just your Sun Sign that I’m talking about when I mention the signs. Check your chart to see if you have the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Ascendant or MC in mid degrees of Leo, Aquarius, Taurus or Scorpio. If you do, then this eclipse is personal for you. If you don’t know if you do, email me and I’ll let you know. But chances are if you’re in this one, you will know from what’s been happening and how you’ve been feeling lately.

Feeling Jangled Lately?

Just a quick note to everyone about something that’s going on in the sky right now that might be of interest–and why this might not be a great time to sky dive!Hurried Woman

Anyone who has been feeling volatile lately (emotionally or energetically), or who has been the recipient of someone else’s volatile behaviour, should know that there is a configuration going on right now involving Mars and the planet Uranus in Aries that might help explain things.

Basically, Mars is approaching 7 degrees where the planet Uranus is at this time. This is a general influence that could be reflected in the overall mood or actions of people and a few of the catch phrases for this combination of planets would be explosive action, inventive burst, scattered energy, unexpected aggression or disruption.

So, some people who are feeling this in its most positive expression have been exhibiting bursts of creative energy. (Most likely this would be people with natal planets in early degrees of Leo, Sagittarius and possibly Aries.) Others, who are getting the tougher side of this conjunction, are feeling angry, explosive, volatile, threatened, put upon, reckless, irritated, thwarted, accident prone, rushed, jostled and jangled. (This would be people with natal planets in early degrees of Cancer, Capricorn, Libra and again possibly Aries.)

All people should take care right now to drive safely rather than recklessly and to watch out for people who are distracted or whose tempers are being irrationally triggered. This is a good time to exercise caution especially in high risk sports and to move forward on original or creative projects. It’s probably not the best time to sky dive, learn to knife juggle, mix unstable chemicals just for giggles or drown one’s anger in whisky. (You get the idea.)

If you’ve had your chart drawn, check the legend on the lower right to see if you have the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars at 5-9 degrees of the signs mentioned above. If so, you will most likely feel this one personally. If you’ve been finding it difficult these last few days, it might help to know that by Friday (March 22) this combination starts to break up, indicating that recent tension should start easing by the weekend.

Finally the Pudding!

Easier times for Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn

This from an Aries woman who emailed to me bright and early today: “I feel giddy this morning, almost euphoric.”

Yes you do my Aries friend! Today is the day that Saturn, planet of slow progress, hard work and harsh realities is moving out of Libra where it has been opposing Aries since July of 2010.

These last twenty-seven months have dampened the spirits of, not just Aries, but all of the cardinal signs including Cancer, Libra and Capricorn causing these folks to realistically assess what work needed doing in their lives while holding them to a practical standard that often felt painfully slow and laborious.

It reminds me of lyrics from Pink Floyd’s Another Brick in the Wall Part 2

“If you don’t eat your meat, you can’t have any pudding. How can you have any pudding if you don’t eat your meat?”

Meaning, of course, you can’t skip to the rewards without doing the work. This is the practical standard to which Saturn holds all he encounters. Get the drudgery done. Do what is required. Rewards come only after the work is completed. And so this is what the cardinal signs have been dealing with these last few years.

The cardinals have been building houses, repairing their bodies, working on their relationships, paying their dues at work and gaining education. They’ve pulled all-nighters soothing new babies or writing term papers; they’ve been admitting where they previously cut corners and they’ve gone back to fix those problems. They’ve been investing in their future and paying off their debts, emotionally as well as financially. They’ve been doing what it takes to fortify the areas of their lives upon which they would like to build. And for the most part, they’ve done a great job and can finally sit back and see what they’ve accomplished.

Good show cardinals! Your rewards will be proportionate to the honest effort you have put forth over the last few years.

For Students and Clients

If you’re a student of astrology or a client, check your chart to see if you have the Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars, Jupiter or Saturn in a cardinal sign. If so, then even if you are not a Cardinal Sun Sign, this movement of Saturn applies to you. You might especially notice it if those planet are in the later degrees say, 22-29 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn.

It means the end of a realistic and possibly difficult learning cycle pertaining to the issues of the planet involved.

Moon: Emotions, home, family, security

Mercury: State of mind, communication, siblings, routines and health

Venus: Love, relationships, material possessions and earning ability

Mars: Physical vitality, action and movement forward

Jupiter: Beliefs, education, travel, philosophy and this that overwhelm you.

Saturn: Career, father, authority figures, responsibilities and areas of insecurity.

Eyeball Astrology

How are you doing with this eclipse period we are in? It’s been very interesting over here! Just to refresh your memory the next eclipse is June 4th and it’s in the middle degrees of Sagittarius. So those born under the sun or moon signs of Pisces, Sagittarius, Gemini and Virgo might feel it the most.  See the last post What’s Your Eclipse Theme for more info.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on a project called Eyeball Astrology and I’ve got it up on Pinterest now for all to see. I think it’s very cool, but I’ll let you be the judge. (And I’ll also give you an opportunity to appear in the project if you’d like!)

Pinterest, if you haven’t heard the buzz, is an online pin board where you can assemble images of things according to your interests. To join, go to www.pinterest.com and request an invitation and within a day or so you’ll get a link that sets you up. It’s a free service and if you’re a visual person, it’s a feast for the eyes.

Once you get on Pinterest, or if you already are, to see Eyeball Astrology just search my name (Crystal Eves) and my boards should show up.

Basically what I’ve done is this: I’ve sifted through the celebrity data base at AstroTheme and then I cross referenced that birth data with Lois Rodden’s Astro-Data Bank for time accuracy and I came up with a number of celebrities who have clear rising signs (no planets in the 1st or 12th houses) and reliable birth data. Then I organized pictures of these celebrities according to their Rising Signs (not their Sun Signs.)

Why do this?

Well, the Rising Sign (or Ascendant) is said to be an indicator of what one looks like. I thought that if I could find clear ascendants and group them together we could get a visual sense of what each rising sign looks like, not theoretically, but actually. I’ve been reading charts for 23 years now, so I have my own notions about how certain Ascendants appear and I thought I’d put it to the test with these boards. In some cases I was surprised by what I found.

My aim in putting the boards together was not to prove that a certain rising looks this way or that. It was simply an exploration to see if grouping people together by rising sign would reveal any theme or similarity.

For some it did. On the Taurus Rising board, for example, you’ll notice that the people are very beautiful and they even seem to have similar noses. On the Cancer Rising board you’ll see that the women are extremely feminine. Many of the women on the Pisces Rising board could easily be sisters, sharing a certain innocent appearance. (Look closely at the picture of Cyndi Lauper on the Pisces board and if you can imagine her out of stage makeup you’ll see that she, too, fits that innocent theme.)

I did not anticipate other themes outside of appearance, but due to the way the charts work, in many cases there were similarities of profession or reputation. In astrology, people who share the same rising sign often share the same career or reputation sign.

You’ll see, for example, that a bunch of notables in communication are on the Virgo Rising board, writers (Dickens, Alcott, Christie, Maupassant, Baudelaire), animation giants Walt Disney and Steve Jobs of Pixar, computer visionaries (Jobs again & Wozniak), film maker Woody Allen, publisher Hugh Hefner and that puzzled me until I realized that people in this group often have Gemini (the communication sign) on the cusp of their career area. (In fact, all of those mentioned above have Gemini on the career line except Woody Allen and Agatha Christie.)

As another example, a fair number of the Gemini Risings (Jagger, Sheen, Winehouse, Barrymore, Lohan) have reputations that involve drugs or alcohol. This was surprising because they each have Aquarius on their reputation line and not Pisces, the sign regularly affiliated with substance abuse. The ones who have the Gemini/Pisces combo, Matthew McConaughey and Lady Gaga, seem to have the cleaner reputations, even when you consider the naked bongo drumming/marijuana smoking incident of McConaughey’s.

To be fair, considering the pool from which I drew candidates, there might be people with abuse problems on all of these Eyeball Astrology boards; it’s just that it seemed noticeably prevalent on the Gemini board. That was an eye opener for me.

Because these are celebrities and public figures, surgical enhancement was an issue I tried to work around by selecting early photos that reflected a subject’s original face.

I may have missed on a few, but just like the way we dress, the way we choose to alter ourselves cosmetically still falls under the domain of the rising sign.

(Isn’t it weird that it’s necessary to put the words ‘original’ and ‘face’ together in a phrase!)

So check out the boards and let me know what you think. No theme occurred to me for the Capricorn Risings, so if you notice one, shoot me a line. My niece suggested that all of their eyes were quite remarkable. If you have any other insights or comments on the Capricorn board, or any other board for that matter, I’d be happy to hear them.

For Students and Clients

If you’re a student of astrology or a client, or if you simply know your Rising Sign, check out the Eyeball Astrology board that corresponds to your Rising Sign to see if you look like the people shown there.

For clients, the Rising is the sign on the line that separates the 12th house from the 1st. It’s also shown in the box on the lower right of your print out in the Position column just right of the word Ascendant. Just for fun, also check out the boards that are the same as your Sun and Moon sign. Do you share anything with the people on those boards?

Want to be on the Eyeball Astrology Board?

I’d love to expand the Eyeball Astrology Board beyond celebrities. If you have an accurate birth time and have no planets in your 1st or 12th house and you’d like to send in a picture, I’ll put you on the board next to the celebrities with whom you belong. It’s almost like being invited onto the red carpet! Plus, in the future you can officially refer to those stars as ‘your peeps’.

Have fun looking at it and let me know what you think! Show friends if you’d like.

And if you’d like to see any new additions as they get pinned, just follow the boards by hitting the Follow button!

What’s Your Eclipse Theme?

Gleaning information from the May 20th and June 4th eclipses.

Ever have a day when you wondered, “What in the world is up with people!”

One time when my eldest son was in pre-school and I went to collect him after class, the teacher was feeling that way. Her normally calm playroom was filled with frenetic, rowdy children running around in an emotionally agitated state, some grabbing toys away from others who then burst into tears, some ramming their push cars into doll houses, laughing maniacally and then wheeling off.

Apart from flinging feces, it looked the way I imagine the zoo would if you gave the monkeys toys and access to cocaine.

Half trying to explain the mayhem and half just shell-shocked, the teacher said to me, “I just don’t know what has gotten into all of them today!”

I had my suspicions. It was the day of an eclipse, and for some reason, children and pets seem to noticeably act out on those days. Adults tend to feel ‘buzzed’ or ‘off’ on eclipse days too, but they’re usually better at hiding it.

Twice a year, we have eclipses and here we go again.

Sunday May 20th, we had a partial solar eclipse (this one known as a rare Ring of Fire eclipse) and on June 4th we will be having a partial lunar eclipse. The events are happening in the mutable signs of Gemini, for the solar, and Sagittarius for the lunar. And what this means from my perspective is that all people, but especially the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces) and definitely all parents and pet owners, should be aware that ‘something is up’.

As an astrologer what I like to do during eclipses is to observe. I observe my own reactions and behaviours to see how, on what, and where I am focussed. It’s a practice I would recommend to anyone for the next two weeks.

To take advantage of this eclipse cycle, imagine that from now until June 4th, your life is going to try to tell you something. Pay attention to the clues it gives. Instead of just reacting to the energy of the moment, ask yourself what am I feeling? What am I thinking? What am I considering doing? What projects am I undertaking? What wants to leave my life at this time? Where do I feel like putting my energy? Where do I feel emotional discord, or the hope of joy and peace?

How you react during this eclipse period, and what you initiate or invite into your life at this time, indicates what themes you will be working with for the next six months, until the next eclipse cycle. This goes for everyone but might be particularly relevant or noticeable if you are born under a mutable sign.

So have fun with it and let’s see where we’re going for the next little while. If you have a choice, perhaps avoid the zoo. : )

For Students and Clients

Check your chart to see if you have any planets near zero or fourteen degrees of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, or Pisces. If you do, you might be in for a more major indicator of where your life is now trying to take you.

Scorpio Supermoon This Saturday

Look up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! Nope, it’s Supermoon!

You won’t see a handsome superhero or even a cape, but if you look skyward this Saturday evening (May 5th, 2012) you will see a supermoon; that is, a larger than average full moon caused by a Perigree-Syzygy.

Full Moon

“Peri-whatsy, whoosa-ziggy?” you might be asking.

A Perigree-Syzygy, in simple terms, means ‘closest in its orbit and lined up’, but in this case, when it’s referring to our Sun, Moon & Earth, I like to think of it as the astronomical alias of the Supermoon. You know, like Clark Kent is to Superman, the nerdy alternate name but essentially the same thing.

It all amounts to this: the moon is going to be large and gorgeous this Saturday because it is going full at a time when it is closest to the earth in its orbit.

Will the tides be larger? Yes, as they always are at the moon’s perigree (closest point). Will tsunamis or disasters occur? Some people have argued a correlation but no one has found definitive proof.

From an astrologer’s point of view, I’d expect moods to be heightened this weekend and because this full moon is happening in Scorpio (Full moons always occur in the opposite sign of the prevailing Sun sign, did you know that?) I’d expect that those born under the water signs of Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces will enjoy the emotional effect a lot more than those born under Leo, Aquarius and Taurus.

So, more laughs and love for the water signs, perhaps some exaggerated upset for the non-water, fixed signs and for everyone else, a beautiful, big glowing orb to behold. It’s a shutter bug’s dream and the perfect backdrop for romance.

For Students and Clients

If you’ve had your chart read by me or if you study astrology, you know that to get a clear picture of what this might mean for you, you need to check the specifics of your chart. Check your personal planetary placements (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars as shown in the bottom right of your printout.) Look to see if any of them are in water signs (Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces) in your nativity; if so, they will likely blend harmoniously with this supermoon. If any of those 5 fall under Leo, Aquarius or Taurus you may have to make some emotional adjustments this weekend. For overall effect and as an indication of what your general mood might be, I’d put the most importance on your natal moon sign.

Remember the luminaries and the planets each have symbolism. Keep that in mind when you’re assessing this supermoon against your own chart.

Sun: Identity, Ego, Father, How One Shines

Moon: Emotions, Family, Mother(ing), Needs, Instincts

Mercury: Thoughts, Health, Siblings, Neighbours

Venus: Love, Feminine charms, Beauty

Mars: Action, the Male Principle, Sexual Drive

If you have any trouble putting it all together, shoot me an email.

Stars Conspire for Love!

This Wednesday, March the 14th 2012, the heavens are conspiring for love and conciliation! If you’re looking for romance; if you’re interested in making up with an existing loved one; even if you’re simply trying to negotiate a fair deal with another, the stars will be smiling on you this Wednesday.

Here’s the astro-speak: Venus and Jupiter will both be conjoined at 9 degrees of Taurus and that position will be taking a favourable angle (a trine) from Pluto at 9 degrees of Capricorn.

Translation: In general, it’s a day when the overriding feeling should be congenial, flirty, and amorous, with social graces, good hair days and people taking the time to appreciate others.

This is a general influence throughout the day, so we should all notice it, but it is augmented for those born under an earth sign (Taurus, Virgo & Capricorn) and especially for those who have a planet at 9 degrees of those signs. As an example, your sun would be at 9 degrees of an earth sign if your birthday is within a day of April 29th, September 1st, and December 30th.

If you’ve had your chart read by me, check the legend in the lower right hand corner of your chart to see if you have any planets at 9 degrees of earth signs (Taurus, Virgo & Capricorn.) If you do, you might be especially sensitive to the charms of day, no matter what your birthday.

Now there is a caveat, if you’re born under Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius, you might not be as smitten as the rest tomorrow. In fact, if your birthday is within a day of August 1st, November 2nd and January 29th, you might be feeling outright grumpy and annoyed. That’s because the Jupiter Venus aspect will be challenging your sun position.

Of course, March 14th is famous for other reasons which I will not divulge here, (but I’m sure a Google search would reveal) so perhaps that will account for some of the romance in the air.

Whatever transpires, I hope you enjoy the day!

Cardinal Crush 2012– Aries, Cancer, Libra & Capricorn Double Whammy

The Cardinal signs in astrology are Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. Nice enough signs, not necessarily prone to hanging out with one another, but each with their good qualities.

Normally when I consult with clients born under these signs or having planets in these signs I have plenty of good things to say. How could I not? I mean, Aries is absolutely refreshing with its vibrant pioneering, get-things-going attitude and lovely Cancer is so sensitive, devoted and caring. Libra, of course, is a pure delight with its social leaning and its partnership spirit and Capricorn can always be admired for its wry sense of humour and its grounded ambition.

But lately, if I see someone with planets in these signs I can’t help but cringe a little, because I know what these signs are up against right now and to say the least (and to do it with poor grammar) it ain’t pretty!

What’s happening, or is about to happen, is this: both Pluto and Uranus are challenging these signs and by the time we get to June they will both be affecting the same degree (8 degrees.) To put it in common terms, this is like having two older siblings, one holding you down and the other dangling drool over your face. In a phrase: it’s a gang up and it is affecting the early degrees of the cardinals.

So what does this mean for you? In a nutshell it’s this: If you are born in the early degrees of these signs (the first ten days), particularly if you are born within a day or two of March 30th, July 1st, October 2nd or December 30th, then you should be aware of what these cycles represent.

For Aries (March 21- April 19) it is a very exciting and enlivened time during which, in order to fully bring these new exciting ideas and plans into the world, you may be pressured to conform in ways that you would rather not. You may have to release old fears and outdated patterns in order to grow and change right now. Let the past go and awaken to the brand new you!

For Cancer (June 21- July 22) everything will be coming at you from the outside. External circumstances and pressures seem to be exerting influence on you. You could experience opposition and situations that you can’t control and you may have a tendency right now to hold on to what is familiar just because it feels safe. Many outdated aspects of your life are trying to leave right now. That could be anything from a person to an attitude.

For Libra (September 23-October 22)things are about to get explosive. Any area of your life that needs changing and that you’ve known about for some time, now must give way to action. The pondering and considering phase is over and if you just admit honestly what it is you want then you have your direction. Life will be putting a lot of pressure on your to get you off of the fence. Better to jump off voluntarily if you haven’t already.

For Capricorn (December 22-January 19) this time is about learning to wield power. Don’t expect that you’ll get it all right the first time. You’re bound to make a few mistakes along the way. Stay flexible and have compassion for yourself as you grow into a deeper sense of personal control. You may be feeling very driven right now and even a little obsessive. Be careful to make room for both the old and new in your life. Some things will naturally fall by the wayside as you grow now, but be careful you don’t toss everything away while you’re feeling a temporary sense of all-or-nothing.

For Clients and Students of Astrology

If you’ve had a reading and/or know your full astrological chart, look at the planetary placements to see if you have anything between 6-8 degrees of any of these four signs. If you do, then this information pertains strongly to you even if you have a different sun sign. Look in the lower right hand box of your chart under the heading Position; that’s where you will see the coordinates. If you find one, note the sign and refer to the above for how it might feel and then note the planet and look below to the area of life affected.

 Here’s the breakdown in brief:

Moon-the effects will be pertaining to your emotions, family, security and your mother.

Mercury-the influence will involve your thinking, your communication and perhaps coworkers.

Venus-it’s about your love life and your feminine side

Mars-your action principle is changing. How you deal with anger, how you assert yourself, these aspects of you are evolving.

Jupiter-your belief system, your judgments as well as your philosophical leanings will all be getting a workout.

Saturn-this will be about the structure in your life, potentially your father, and also your career goals.

Uranus-this is your excitement, rebellion principle.

Neptune-this has to do with your spiritual growth, dreams, illusions and denial.

Pluto-our point of power, where we have it and where others wield it over us.

All Aboard Trident to Pisces!

If you are sensitive to energy, moods or the general social climate, then most likely you’ve been wondering what has been going on with people lately. It’s a good question, and as an astrologer I have at least one answer for you: Neptune has just moved into Pisces. It happened on Saturday (February 4th, 2012) and as a result, some of the spiritual tension that we’ve all been feeling should start to release.

Big exhale everyone and maybe even an “Om” if you’re into it.

The fact that Neptune, the planet symbolized by the Trident, has now moved into its own ruling sign of Pisces might not make the CNN feed, but it will explain a few things for those of you who’ve been feeling the transition.

For one, it might illuminate why so many people have been feeling ‘torn at the soul’ this past month. Do you recognize this? Have you seen this in action, or perhaps been feeling this way yourself?

Here’s my take on it. When an outer planet such as Neptune changes signs, it indicates a new social attitude and focus. The focus of Neptune in Pisces is alignment with soul. The symbolism is: surrender to the spiritual will. This time begs us to follow a meandering, and sometimes illogical, path that offers no proof of reward, but instead blindly and constantly beckons us at our deepest knowing.

You can understand then, why this is difficult for people.

“Move toward the unseen,” is the call.

“What’s over there?” we ask.

“Come and see,” is the reply.

And the problem with having heard the call is that, whether we follow it or not, we know that we’ve been beckoned and because of that simple fact, nothing in our ordinary life can ever look the same again. In fact, this disillusionment with present reality is sometimes how we hear the call in the first place.

“Something doesn’t feel right anymore,” we observe. And then “Move toward the unseen,” is the reply.

This is the essence of the struggle that ensued for so many in January. Many could sense that it was time– time to deepen, time to admit, time to step forward, time to align. And many were pulled in two directions at once not wanting to stagnate, but not certain they could trust such a vague yet persistent call.

“Move toward the unseen.”

“What is over there?”

“The fulfilment you’ve been seeking”

“What do I need to do?”

“Trust that which you’ve never trusted before.”

“Not that!”

“Yes, that.”

It is the tension of feeling the pull, but not having chosen the response that was felt so strongly in January. Like a whistle indicating our train is about to leave the station and the state of uncertain readiness we feel when we are unsure if we will jump on or stay behind.

For those who chose to go with Neptune in January toward a deeper satisfaction there is the confusion of learning to trust in new ways. For those who chose to stay and live with life as it exists, there is the resignation to not grow.

The Trident has left the platform, out of Aquarius and into Pisces. It’s not at full speed yet, so if you meant to catch it, you can still run hard and jump.

If you’ve decided to let it go on without you, you may feel some relief as its urgent call begins to fade and your internal conflict becomes less intense. So staying behind is a choice you can make, but I must say, if you do, there is a strong chance you will always hear a faint whistle in the distance. And that’s probably a good thing.
