Cardinal Crush 2012– Aries, Cancer, Libra & Capricorn Double Whammy
The Cardinal signs in astrology are Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. Nice enough signs, not necessarily prone to hanging out with one another, but each with their good qualities.
Normally when I consult with clients born under these signs or having planets in these signs I have plenty of good things to say. How could I not? I mean, Aries is absolutely refreshing with its vibrant pioneering, get-things-going attitude and lovely Cancer is so sensitive, devoted and caring. Libra, of course, is a pure delight with its social leaning and its partnership spirit and Capricorn can always be admired for its wry sense of humour and its grounded ambition.
But lately, if I see someone with planets in these signs I can’t help but cringe a little, because I know what these signs are up against right now and to say the least (and to do it with poor grammar) it ain’t pretty!
What’s happening, or is about to happen, is this: both Pluto and Uranus are challenging these signs and by the time we get to June they will both be affecting the same degree (8 degrees.) To put it in common terms, this is like having two older siblings, one holding you down and the other dangling drool over your face. In a phrase: it’s a gang up and it is affecting the early degrees of the cardinals.
So what does this mean for you? In a nutshell it’s this: If you are born in the early degrees of these signs (the first ten days), particularly if you are born within a day or two of March 30th, July 1st, October 2nd or December 30th, then you should be aware of what these cycles represent.
For Aries (March 21- April 19) it is a very exciting and enlivened time during which, in order to fully bring these new exciting ideas and plans into the world, you may be pressured to conform in ways that you would rather not. You may have to release old fears and outdated patterns in order to grow and change right now. Let the past go and awaken to the brand new you!
For Cancer (June 21- July 22) everything will be coming at you from the outside. External circumstances and pressures seem to be exerting influence on you. You could experience opposition and situations that you can’t control and you may have a tendency right now to hold on to what is familiar just because it feels safe. Many outdated aspects of your life are trying to leave right now. That could be anything from a person to an attitude.
For Libra (September 23-October 22)things are about to get explosive. Any area of your life that needs changing and that you’ve known about for some time, now must give way to action. The pondering and considering phase is over and if you just admit honestly what it is you want then you have your direction. Life will be putting a lot of pressure on your to get you off of the fence. Better to jump off voluntarily if you haven’t already.
For Capricorn (December 22-January 19) this time is about learning to wield power. Don’t expect that you’ll get it all right the first time. You’re bound to make a few mistakes along the way. Stay flexible and have compassion for yourself as you grow into a deeper sense of personal control. You may be feeling very driven right now and even a little obsessive. Be careful to make room for both the old and new in your life. Some things will naturally fall by the wayside as you grow now, but be careful you don’t toss everything away while you’re feeling a temporary sense of all-or-nothing.
For Clients and Students of Astrology
If you’ve had a reading and/or know your full astrological chart, look at the planetary placements to see if you have anything between 6-8 degrees of any of these four signs. If you do, then this information pertains strongly to you even if you have a different sun sign. Look in the lower right hand box of your chart under the heading Position; that’s where you will see the coordinates. If you find one, note the sign and refer to the above for how it might feel and then note the planet and look below to the area of life affected.
Here’s the breakdown in brief:
Moon-the effects will be pertaining to your emotions, family, security and your mother.
Mercury-the influence will involve your thinking, your communication and perhaps coworkers.
Venus-it’s about your love life and your feminine side
Mars-your action principle is changing. How you deal with anger, how you assert yourself, these aspects of you are evolving.
Jupiter-your belief system, your judgments as well as your philosophical leanings will all be getting a workout.
Saturn-this will be about the structure in your life, potentially your father, and also your career goals.
Uranus-this is your excitement, rebellion principle.
Neptune-this has to do with your spiritual growth, dreams, illusions and denial.
Pluto-our point of power, where we have it and where others wield it over us.
All Aboard Trident to Pisces!
If you are sensitive to energy, moods or the general social climate, then most likely you’ve been wondering what has been going on with people lately. It’s a good question, and as an astrologer I have at least one answer for you: Neptune has just moved into Pisces. It happened on Saturday (February 4th, 2012) and as a result, some of the spiritual tension that we’ve all been feeling should start to release.
Big exhale everyone and maybe even an “Om” if you’re into it.
The fact that Neptune, the planet symbolized by the Trident, has now moved into its own ruling sign of Pisces might not make the CNN feed, but it will explain a few things for those of you who’ve been feeling the transition.
For one, it might illuminate why so many people have been feeling ‘torn at the soul’ this past month. Do you recognize this? Have you seen this in action, or perhaps been feeling this way yourself?
Here’s my take on it. When an outer planet such as Neptune changes signs, it indicates a new social attitude and focus. The focus of Neptune in Pisces is alignment with soul. The symbolism is: surrender to the spiritual will. This time begs us to follow a meandering, and sometimes illogical, path that offers no proof of reward, but instead blindly and constantly beckons us at our deepest knowing.
You can understand then, why this is difficult for people.
“Move toward the unseen,” is the call.
“What’s over there?” we ask.
“Come and see,” is the reply.
And the problem with having heard the call is that, whether we follow it or not, we know that we’ve been beckoned and because of that simple fact, nothing in our ordinary life can ever look the same again. In fact, this disillusionment with present reality is sometimes how we hear the call in the first place.
“Something doesn’t feel right anymore,” we observe. And then “Move toward the unseen,” is the reply.
This is the essence of the struggle that ensued for so many in January. Many could sense that it was time– time to deepen, time to admit, time to step forward, time to align. And many were pulled in two directions at once not wanting to stagnate, but not certain they could trust such a vague yet persistent call.
“Move toward the unseen.”
“What is over there?”
“The fulfilment you’ve been seeking”
“What do I need to do?”
“Trust that which you’ve never trusted before.”
“Not that!”
“Yes, that.”
It is the tension of feeling the pull, but not having chosen the response that was felt so strongly in January. Like a whistle indicating our train is about to leave the station and the state of uncertain readiness we feel when we are unsure if we will jump on or stay behind.
For those who chose to go with Neptune in January toward a deeper satisfaction there is the confusion of learning to trust in new ways. For those who chose to stay and live with life as it exists, there is the resignation to not grow.
The Trident has left the platform, out of Aquarius and into Pisces. It’s not at full speed yet, so if you meant to catch it, you can still run hard and jump.
If you’ve decided to let it go on without you, you may feel some relief as its urgent call begins to fade and your internal conflict becomes less intense. So staying behind is a choice you can make, but I must say, if you do, there is a strong chance you will always hear a faint whistle in the distance. And that’s probably a good thing.

No Scorpios or Virgos Please!
If you thought your Sun Sign has no bearing on your career, check out this post that was sent to me by a client. Apparently an employer in China placed an ad to fill a position but specifically requested that no Virgos or Scorpios apply. According to the article, preferential treatment would be given to those born under the sign of Pisces and Libra. If the post is correct, Capricorns appear on both the shunned list and the preferred list! No wonder Capricorns often feel that it’s difficult to win!
: )
If I know my astrology (and I do) I know this: that employer would probably be well served to hire the very people she is trying to avoid. (And I’m not just saying that because I’m a Scorpio.) Many times, the personalities that roil us are actually people who embody the qualities of our Saturn sign or placement. We think that we don’t enjoy them, but they are really just demonstrating qualities that we are still working to embrace. Eventually as we grow and learn to develop our Saturn sign strengths we often develop friendships and new found respect for those personalities that we previously disdained.

The Big Overwhelm
Stressful Times for Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius
In astrology, the planet Jupiter is known as the ‘greater benefic’, basically that translates as ‘big ball of good fortune.’ For this reason, students of astrology often look forward to Jupiter cycles hoping that, when they arrive, lady luck will drop in too. However, what fledgling astrologers rarely understand (at first) is that, in addition to having an affiliation with good luck, expansion and opportunity, Jupiter is equally associated with big problems, overwhelm and larger than life stress. It all depends on what type of Jupiter cycle one gets.
Here’s a little example. Right now Jupiter is travelling through the sign of Taurus back and forth in its apparent motion through the zodiac between zero and ten degrees. Anyone born in the first ten days of Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius is therefore undergoing a stressful Jupiter transit (and has been since sometime in the summer.) Roughly speaking, that means any Leo born from July 23 to August 3, any Scorpio born from October 24 to November 3, and any Aquarian born January 21-31, is now experiencing the more nasty side of this supposed astrological Santa Claus.
Do you know anyone born during these times? If so, how are they doing?
Are they feeling stressed or overburdened, like they’ve bitten off more than they can chew or perhaps like they’re barely able to handle all their commitments, problems, and responsibilities?
These groups are experiencing either a Jupiter opposition (Scorpio), or a Jupiter square (Aquarius and Leo), two ways of saying that they are under heavy pressure to change and grow.
If you know any of these souls, or if you are one yourself, there are a few things that I can tell you.
First of all, this cycle hangs around until mid-March 2012.
Second, under this influence it’s usually not a good idea to hunker down and stay the course, which unfortunately is exactly what most Leos, Scorpios and Aquarians are prone to do.
The thing is, the events of this cycle are showing you where rigid thinking and unbending behaviour is stressing you. To continue that same ineffective behaviour just prolongs the stress. We all have limits and this cycle is showing you that you’ve reached the limit of what your current approach can handle. The question then becomes, are you going to let it swallow you whole as you keep trying the same thing over and over again, or are you going to adapt how you handle things?
This doesn’t mean that life isn’t dumping on you right now, it may be. But when life dumps on you it’s important to maximize your efforts so that you don’t burn out trying to handle what has come your way.
Imagine a big snow storm had deposited five feet of snow in your driveway and you now have to shovel out. If you have good technique, solid equipment and you are dressed warmly, it’s a lot of work but you’ll eventually get it done without injury. If, however, you are lifting with your back, using a shovel that keeps breaking and wearing four inch heels, the whole exercise will leave you sore, angry and frostbitten. The point is you can get away with these inefficiencies and poor practices when it’s just a light dusting but not with five feet of packing snow.
Under a challenging Jupiter transit, you’re getting the packing snow and where you are mishandling things, where there are flaws in your system or in your thinking, will quickly become apparent.
Often the best remedy for the stress of a challenging Jupiter transit is to ask yourself exactly what solution you are rejecting out of hand. What is the thing that you categorically refuse to do? Is it to look at your emotions? Ask for help? Go bankrupt? See a counsellor? Take a second job? Change your habits? Sell your house? What solution is so unpalatable to you that it that makes you mad when suggested?
Whatever that thing is, that solution that makes you cringe, it’s a clue as to where you are being rigid. And understanding the cost of that rigidity is what these particularly Jupiter cycles are about.
Sometimes inflexibility stems from having a strong character, sometimes it comes from fear of losing face, or from an effort to avoid confronting something unpleasant. There are many reasons why people don’t want to alter their approach, but this I know, during stressful Jupiter transits, like the ones that early Scorpios, Leos and Aquarians are facing, life will give you situation, after situation, after situation until you either break or bend.
It’s so much better to bend. Ask anyone who has finally done it.
For those of you who’ve had your chart read, and have your chart handy, this article also applies to you if you have the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn or Jupiter in zero to ten degrees of the three signs mentioned, even if you are born under a different sun sign.
